Many of the disruptive technologies we are witnessing today, both in HR and the broader business process services world, have the potential to eliminate or significantly reduce (through automation) the need for human intervention in transactional processes, calling into question the benefits derived through HR GICs, cost arbitrage in particular. With some of these technologies expected to mature and drive automation in the next three to five years, Global In-house Centers (GICs), Human Resource (HR) GICs in particular would need to reevaluate their value proposition.

This viewpoint examines the implications for GICs and illustrates how these technologies will help accelerate what could be seen as a natural progression for GICs, from centers of cost arbitrage to centers of expertise and innovation, necessitating reorganization within the HR function along the way.
