Generative AI presents a dual role in Trust and Safety (T&S), acting as both a solution and a challenge. While it offers the ability to moderate content, its proficiency in content creation introduces new T&S use cases. With the potential to automate low- and medium-complexity work, generative AI is poised to reshape the nature of work for content moderators, influencing the required skills and the type of work undertaken.

As generative AI transforms the landscape, content moderators will see a shift in their responsibilities, necessitating a reevaluation of the skills essential for their roles. This shift in turn will have cascading effects on training requirements, delivery methods, and wellness initiatives tailored for moderators.

This viewpoint explores the skills required for content moderators, the evolving nature of their work driven by generative AI, the consequent impact on talent models, the emergence of new work types, evolving talent and delivery models, and the ethical considerations for leveraging generative AI.
