Risk Radar Newsflash | Significant Positive Movement in Poland Regulatory Risk Profile

by Sakshi Garg

Polish President, Andrzej Duda, signed a bill on criminal record checks for businesses on 28 May 2018. The bill, which is likely to be implemented by 1 October 2018, relaxes existing restrictions on employers’ rights to check the criminal records of current and prospective employees. These restrictions had led to data protection concerns among Polish and global financial services institutions, BPOs, and shared services programs, and inhibited these firms from supporting processes that involve highly sensitive data in Poland.

As a result of this reform, we are upgrading Poland’s rating on regulatory risk to Low-Medium from Medium. We expect Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) companies’ and BPOs’ shared services centers to be able to support more complex and industry-specific processes in Poland.
